Kevin Sweeney

Dr. Kevin Sweeney was the Senior Advisor for the Directorate of Strategic and Operational Planning (DSOP) at the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). Prior to that, he was a Group Chief in DSOP. Previously was the Group Chief for Data, Tools, and Methods inside the Studies and Evaluations Division in ODNI Systems and Resource Analysis (SRA). Dr. Sweeney worked at ODNI from 2010 to 2022. He was promoted to the Senior National Intelligence Service in 2017. Beginning his government service in 2004, he spent 6 years at the Joint Warfare Analysis Center (JWAC) in Dahlgren, VA. Dr. Sweeney received his Ph.D. in Political Science from The Ohio State University in 2004, and a bachelor’s degree in political science and history from the University of Rochester in 1996. He suffered 2 strokes in August 2020, one severe. He is a, many times over, published author, including the book Trapped: Living with Non-Fluent Aphasia (Sweeney, 2023). Dr. Sweeney was born and raised in Levittown, NY, and is married to the former Ms. Kelly Lynn Byrnes of Oceanside, NY. They reside in Purcellville, Virginia, with their sons Ryan, Timothy, and Matthew.
