Hi there! I’m Lisa Kirkman, and I’m thrilled to have you here. If you’re like me, you’ve spent a good chunk of your life figuring out who you are, only to discover the joy and freedom that comes with embracing your authentic self. My journey has been anything but conventional, but every twist and turn has shaped the stories I now share.
At 50, I’m living my best and most unapologetic life. I’m married to the love of my life (yes, my wife—who still makes me laugh like nobody else), and I host the Big Gay Overalls Podcast, where I tell raw and real stories about coming out as a lesbian later in life. I’ve swapped the closets of my past for conversations that are open, liberating, and hopefully inspiring.
But my life hasn’t always been this way. Growing up in a small rural town, I didn’t even have the language to describe who I was. Words like "lesbian" were hurled as insults, and I carried that fear of not belonging well into adulthood. At 40, I was a small business owner, married (to a man), and ticking off the boxes society had handed me—but deep down, I was terrified that anyone would see the real me.
My writing, podcasting, and speaking come from that vulnerable place—where fear meets courage, where shame gets replaced by pride, and where being seen finally feels like freedom. Through my work, I hope to connect with anyone who’s ever felt out of place, uncertain, or unseen, and remind them they’re not alone.
I believe in the power of stories to change lives because they’ve certainly changed mine. If you’re here, maybe you’re ready to explore, heal, or even rewrite your own story. I’m here for it, and I’d love for you to join me on this journey.
Follow me here on Amazon, and let’s connect on my podcast or through my blog on Substack. Let’s make this life as bold and beautiful as it’s meant to be—one story at a time.
Lisa
