I have been dedicated to research, with a thirst for discovery that has not left me. I have dedicated my life to the transmission of knowledge by writing many articles and books on science. Writing has always been the best activity for me. It is about sharing, giving and also committing. Is it acceptable to be only consumers? My duty is to be a contributor, a witness of my time.
Very young, I felt the need to write texts on free subjects, result of observations of nature and the world around me. Very sensitive to the misery of those who work and contribute, without any recognition, to the wealth of society, I was interested in all the writings that carry meaning. Known for my scientific work, I took the pen name “Herald BREND”, an anagram of my first and last names. Once again, under this name respecting the initials B.H. of my patronymic, I felt free to create.
Writing is not trivial. I would not see any interest in telling stories for the simple pleasure of playing with words. A book must carry a message, help to reflect, and ask questions about the events described. I could not do otherwise, probably a drift of the pedagogy... It is important to escape from everyday life, discover characters, situations and places. To interest the reader is also to draw inspiration from experience, to create emotion and suspense through plots that are sometimes not devoid of humor, combining both romantic feelings and police deductions.
I am inspired by everyday subjects with a story rooted in our time: change your life by leaving the suffocating atmosphere of Paris, follow the rise of a woman in her professional environment, aspire to freedom after confinement, to reflect on issues such as trust, fidelity in the couple, to witness the development of an unlucky boy, to be surprised by human weakness when an unforeseen event destabilizes.
My characters are thirsty for freedom, independence, love, friendship, tolerance and respect for others. Overwhelmed by events, they face the situation, try to adapt despite their certainties and question the events that disrupt their habits. They may also face burlesque situations and find that any experience is enriching.
A writer is, for me, an idea-carrier, sharing his experiences, hopes and worldview. A creator is always a rebel. My texts are looking for meaning in life, which is expressed by one of my heroes, questioning his future: "I am aware that I have my life ahead of me, but what to do?"
