Anh Duong was born in the village Dạ-Lê, a suburb of Hue, Vietnam, and lived there and in Saigon during the war until the mid-1970s, when he moved to Iran to witness the Islamic Revolution. He arrived in Canada in 1980 as a refugee and worked for over three decades as an engineer in the petroleum industry, first in Calgary, AB, and later in Houston, TX. Embarking on a writing career after retiring, Anh participated in the Banff Centre's Emerging Writers Intensive in 2017. He recently wrote a memoir for his daughter, Ashley Da-Lê, which was later published as his debut nonfiction book, "Dear Da-Lê," and won the 2025 Kobo Emerging Writer Prize. He lives in Calgary, AB.
