With roots planted firmly in Tuskegee, AL, and Jarrett, VA, I became an active participant in the theatre arts community in Ossining, NY. Furthering my education at SUNY Purchase College in Westchester, NY, earning a Bachelor's degree in Literature/Drama Studies. I wrote, produced, directed, and performed my first original work, This Ain't Livin': A Ghetto Drama in Three One Acts.
After graduating from SUNY Purchase College, I attended the National Theatre Conservatory in Denver, Colorado, where I earned a Master of Fine Arts in Acting Performance. There, I wrote my first solo performance project, "Othello: By One Man." This piece explores Gay interracial relationships and black male identity using the blended text of my words and Shakespeare's masterpiece.
My journey into creative expression began in my teenage years, sparked by a fervent passion for music that led me to pen original song lyrics. Even now, the occasional lyric finds its way onto paper, a testament to that enduring first love. I vividly recall countless hours spent in my dorm room, surrounded by a rainbow of colored pens and an array of journals. These were not just notebooks; they were sanctuaries where my thoughts took flight, where I explored the burgeoning landscape of my dreams, and where I navigated the intricate terrain of self-discovery, including the awakening of my sexuality. Within those pages, I also began crafting stories, narratives whose significance and future purpose I couldn't possibly fathom at the time. Little did I know that these nascent literary endeavors would one day serve as the fuel for the creative fires that burn within me today, shaping my artistic voice and providing a wellspring of inspiration for all my present and future creative pursuits.
After all my schooling over the years, I didn't want to return to the classroom for another round of teachers and assignments. Instead, I grabbed a book on writing from The Strand bookstore in Manhattan. I put together a schedule and read many fiction books I had always wanted to read but hadn't made the time to while working, learning, playing, and growing over the years across the United States.
I went in on my studies.
I read daily.
I wrote daily
During off-hours from my day job as an Underwriting Associate at a corporate insurance company in the Financial District, Manhattan, I attended my creative writing school in my Brownsville, Brooklyn, apartment living room—every night after work and on weekends.
I have come to self-publishing to break free from my cage and share with readers what I'm writing about, and I hope that you enjoy what you read and want to read more of it. I seek feedback of all kinds. Please read my work and share your thoughts on my words and the way I've put them together—blessings to you all.
