Dr. Oliver L. Haimson is an Assistant Professor at University of Michigan School of Information (UMSI) and author of the forthcoming book Trans Technologies. Dr. Haimson is Director of the Community Research on Identity and Technology (CRIT) Lab, Senior Fellow at the Center for Applied Transgender Studies, and affiliate faculty with the Digital Studies Institute (DSI). He is a recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER Award, Henry Russel Award, and multiple Best Paper and Honorable Mention awards. He earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Information and Computer Science from the University of California, Irvine and his B.S. at Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Haimson is widely recognized as an expert in human-computer interaction (HCI) and social computing, with a particular focus on transgender identities and experiences online and with social technologies. He has published many peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, and book chapters on trans technologies, identity transitions, social media content moderation, and trans and LGBTQ+ health, among many other topics. He regularly offers expert commentary to outlets like The New York Times, USA Today, WIRED, and Scientific American, among many others. Dr. Haimson has delivered talks at conferences, universities, and symposia across the world.
