Andrew Kania

Andrew Kania is Professor of Philosophy at Trinity University in San Antonio, where his principal research is in the philosophy of music, film, and literature. Andrew earned his bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, before moving to the U.S. to earn his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park. Believing that doing philosophy of the arts requires serious participation in them, Andrew tries to maintain his chops as a violinist, singer, arranger, and conductor. Highlights of this second life include winning “Choir of the World” with the New Zealand Youth Choir in 1999, and being the artistic director of a choral concert of Beatles arrangements – including many of his own – during his 2017-18 academic leave in New Zealand.
