Rubao Lee

Rubao Lee is an accomplished computer scientist and software engineer, renowned for his expertise in designing and implementing data processing systems. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from the Institute of Computing Technology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2008. Following his doctoral work, Dr. Lee served as a research scientist in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at The Ohio State University. In 2018, he founded Rateup Inc., a company dedicated to advancing GPU-accelerated database systems.

Dr. Lee has published extensively in prestigious conferences and journals, focusing primarily on computer and database systems. His research has influenced both academia and industry, with several innovations integrated into widely used industrial products. Among his notable contributions are RCFile, a popular data format for large-scale data processing; YSmart, a correlation optimizer implemented in Apache Hive; and the PixelBox algorithm, part of Nvidia’s GPP library.

Dr. Lee’s work has earned him multiple accolades, including the ICDCS 2011 Best Paper Award, the 2018 Lumley Research Award from Ohio State’s College of Engineering, and the 2024 VLDB Test of Time Award, underscoring his enduring impact on the field.
