Ronald J. Cohn: Johns Hopkins University, B.A. Physics – University of Maryland, PhD. Physics – Merrit College, Oakland, Ca. Professor of Physics – Prince of Songkhla University Visiting Professor of Physics, Bangkok and Pattani, Thailand – Swami Gitananda’s Ashram, Pondicherry, India – Ramana Maharshi’s Ashram, Tiruvannamalai, India – University of Maryland Visiting Professor (part-time) – clerk in my father Ben’s hardware store (part-time) – Associate Editor of “Physics Today” – loft-dwelling artist in Manhattan’s Soho neighborhood whose projects included: building free-form geodesics in such shapes as tubes, rings, mushrooms, and ovaloids, a collection of 50,000 marbles held in an 8-foot circus ring made of a truncated icosahedron and please note the artist did not have loose marbles except when of our cats freed one*, and during the winter of 1976, the artist created a collection of shapes by gluing marbles together – taught a course at the New School for Social Research called “Geometry for Poets” – became a poor artist who drove a taxicab and then took a fourteen-week course, put on a 3-piece suit and became a COBOL computer programmer who at one time worked at the Federal Home Loan Bank on the 107th floor of the World Trade Center taking, at first, the express elevator to 56 and then the local to 107. On windy days, the doors of the toilet stalls creaked and swayed. Looking out the windows I could see the streets below the clouds and on a clear day, I could see the rear windows of my loft and noted that I commuted to work vertically almost as much as horizontally. One day on my walk home I encountered Muhammad Ali sitting a little table on the loading dock of an old loft that had been converted into a coffee shop. He greeted me as if I knew him and of course I did. I said, “Hi Champ, How U Doin?” In 1982, the Mafia bought our loft building, then I spent a long career (1982-2002) as Chairman of the Academic Computer Department at Sullivan County Community College, where my favorite task on the job was to call the folks in my department early in the morning on snow days when the college was closed to wake them up with the song ”No School Today!!!” - Amrita University, Kerala, India Professor of Physics (2006-2008) – explored the hills of the Bay Area (2004-2019), caught a bad case of shingles in 2019 a few days before I was to receive the vaccine and have since then I finished six books as therapy for the weird pains resulting from the singles. I self-published them on Amazon Kindle.
*The cat would bat the thing all around the floor in the middle of the night and eventually over to the tall cast-iron radiator where there was a hole leading to the downstairs loft of the artist and writer, Robert Porter and his artist wife Jeanni. Then you could hear a dropity drop drop until one of their cats continued the game by rolling the marble around on their floors. The Porters would testify that I had loose marbles.
