Rick James

Rick James is a writer of children’s and young adult books who still hasn’t quite grown up, which is probably why he enjoys writing for younger readers. He lives in Southport with his wife and children, who are very useful for testing story ideas, character names, and peculiar new creatures.

Rick has been making up stories since he was a child, often inspired by the fantasy and science fiction books he loved. Back then, the stories mostly lived in notebooks, schoolbooks, and occasionally on bedroom walls (to the disappointment of his parents). These days, they make it into actual books instead.

He enjoys creating imaginative worlds, strange creatures, brave heroes, and the occasional villain who may or may not be misunderstood. When he’s not writing, Rick can usually be found reading, thinking about writing, avoiding writing, and then finally writing when a deadline gets too close to ignore.

Rick hopes his stories will encourage young readers to explore their imagination, and maybe even stay up past their bedtime just to read one more chapter.
