Amanda Haynes is an enthusiastic STEM educator currently shaping young minds at Discovery Middle School in Madison, Alabama. Equipped with a M.Ed. degree in Secondary Science Education from Auburn University, Amanda is deeply committed to fostering a love for science and technology in her students. Her dedication to excellence in education is exemplified by her achievement of the Dimensions of Success STEM Certification from the PEAR Institute. Daily, she strives to create new STEM experiences and challenges for her students to bolster their critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills.
As a former science teacher, and with collaborations with her co-author and mentor, Amanda brings experience and innovative teaching strategies to her classroom. Beyond her professional endeavours, she finds joy in hobby farming, exploring new vacation destinations, and expressing her creativity through singing. Family and friends are also an integral part of her daily life and responsibilities as she is married with two children and a large extended family.
In co-authoring Teaching STEAM Through Hands-On Crafts: Real-World Maker Lessons for Grades 3-8, Amanda Haynes utilized her classroom and her students’ experiences to inform the creation of the work, and to create companion documents that effectively turn the book from a concept into a ready-to-teach curriculum! Through her work, Amanda continues her attempt to impact the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators.
