I am an Assistant Professor of Political Science in the Carnegie Mellon Institute for Strategy and Technology (CMIST) at Carnegie Mellon University, where I teach courses on international security, Middle East politics, and research methods. My research focuses on using insights from social and political psychology to understand international politics, with a focus on violent conflict, U.S. foreign policy, and the politics of the contemporary Middle East and Islamic world.
My work is published in scholarly journals like International Organization, International Studies Quarterly, Public Opinion Quarterly, the Journal of Conflict Resolution, the Journal of Peace Research, and Security Studies and popular outlets like Foreign Affairs, The Washington Post, The National Interest, and Political Violence at a Glance.
I received my Ph.D. in political science at the Ohio State University and my B.A. in political science at the University of Pennsylvania.
