Michael J Savage

Michael J Savage was born in the UK and has lived and traveled all over the globe. He knew from the start that he wanted to see as much of the world as possible and began by moving from London to Alaska in his 20s. He spent most of his adult life in California and worked in all five continents in both the for-profit (oil) and the nonprofit (opera) worlds. He managed large entities (e.g. BPs oil production subsidiary in the US when it was the country’s largest producer) and very small (his own start up oil company in Papua New Guinea). In the music world he was Managing Director of San Francisco Opera, one of the world’s great opera companies. Along the way he happened to witness two coups d’état (in Ethiopia and Ecuador), lived through the Middle East war of 1967, learned Arabic and how to fly and at 69 climbed to 17,500 feet on Everest, the remote Kangshung side.
