Davidson Oturu

Davidson Oturu is a corporate lawyer and venture capital investor with nearly two decades of experience at the intersection of law, finance, and technology. As the General Partner at Nubia Capital, a prominent venture capital firm investing in tech-enabled startups across Africa, Davidson drives innovation and supports the growth of emerging markets in key sectors such as fintech, healthtech, and cleantech.

Prior to Nubia Capital, Davidson served as a Partner at AELEX, one of the leading law firms in Nigeria and Ghana, where he spearheaded the Startups, Innovation, and Technology Practice. His extensive legal expertise encompasses intellectual property (IP), regulatory compliance, corporate law, and commercial law, providing invaluable services to a diverse clientele in industries including fintech, telecommunications, IT, media, private equity, and financial services.

Recognized as a leading expert in fintech law and corporate/commercial practice, Davidson has earned accolades in prestigious legal directories such as Chambers Fintech Guide, IFLR 1000, Legal 500, Who’s Who Legal, WTR 1000, IP Stars, and Chambers Global. He played a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria's tech landscape by serving on the Presidential Advisory Council and leading the drafting of the Nigeria Startup Act, which addresses critical regulatory and financial challenges faced by tech startups. Additionally, he contributed to the Fintech Roadmap Committee under Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), helping to develop a comprehensive regulatory framework for fintech within Nigeria’s capital markets.

An active mentor to aspiring entrepreneurs, Davidson serves as a non-executive director on several boards and is a dedicated mentor at the Founder Institute and Techstars, globally renowned accelerators. In 2022, he launched the Davidson Oturu Mentorship Programme and the Law School Scholarship Scheme, reinforcing his commitment to nurturing the next generation of professionals in law and business.

A prolific writer and speaker, Davidson frequently shares his insights on fintech regulation, venture capital, and emerging technologies at international conferences and events.

Davidson holds an LL.B from the University of Ibadan, an LL.M in International Business Law from the University of Cumbria, an MBA from Queen Mary University of London, and has participated in the Oxford Fintech Programme at the University of Oxford.
