Warren Gerds

This lifetime journalist is celebrating a Gold award from the Nonfiction Authors Association and acceptance as a candidate for 2025 Pulitzer Prize for his memoir, “Golden Tales of a Newsman.” Covered in the book is a swath of the author’s experiences and writings from the era of hot-metal printing of a daily newspaper to becoming a television station’s performing arts critic and general features writer with a sweeping range. Television website features include detailed accounts of lives of creative people told primarily in their words and columns on everything from remembering a classmate 50 years to the day he was killed in action as a Marine fighting behind the lines in Vietnam to the experience of the loss of a pet.

Warren is a graduate of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he was undergraduate teaching assistant. He was a hybrid editor/columnist/critic at large at the Green Bay (Wisconsin) Press-Gazette daily newspaper before working for WFRV-TV CBS affiliate in Green Bay as critic at large. He wrote online features and reviews every day of the year, plus weekly Sunday on-air appearances for live performance reviews and feature stories at 120 venues in 75-mile radius of station (1,426 reviews). Clippings from output of entire Green Bay Press-Gazette career and as staff member of UWM Post are held by the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay library.

His 12 books (so far) are held by the Library of Congress.
