Gerard Williams

Gerard "HipHopGamer" Williams, born and raised in East New York, Brooklyn, began playing video games at the age of 4. His grandmother, Margaret Williams, a passionate gamer herself, passed down her love for gaming to Gerard.

Growing up in a challenging environment, gaming became more than just a hobby—it was a positive outlet for Gerard. His grandmother, affectionately known as “HipHopGranny,” used video games to teach him life lessons, showing him that, like in games, life is full of challenges, objectives, and tough battles that must be overcome to achieve success.

In 2008, Gerard was discovered by Torrence Davis, which provided him the opportunity to showcase his talents through his weekly “HipHopGamerShow,” and learn the craft of journalism. Gerard then built a career in the gaming industry, where he established relationships and developed his distinctive style. As a result, he opened doors for many Black content creators, giving them a voice and platform.

Today, Gerard "HipHopGamer" Williams continues to make an impact in the gaming world, from interviewing major figures in entertainment to contributing music in popular video games. He has also made a difference in the education system with his Playmakers program, emphasizing his belief that "Character Is Your Currency."
