Uri Cohen was born in Nes Tziona in 1948. He was a member of the first graduating class of the town’s high school and was a youth movement member and counselor. He served as an officer in the Nahal paratroop battalion and was wounded in 1970 while serving as a reservist in an outpost overlooking the El-Ferdan bridge, along the east bank of the Suez Canal. He earned degrees in political science, Japanese culture, and general studies from Tel Aviv University. After working for two years at the Ministry of Heath, he was named director of the Central Library for the Blind, a position he served in for thirty-three years, from 1977 to 2010. He began work on Blind a few months after retiring. He lives in Ramat Aviv with his wife, Noga. They have three children and eight grandchildren.
