Shanna K. Helmke

Shanna Helmke has been a dedicated educator since 2011, currently teaching fifth grade ELA and Social Studies at Linn-Mar Community School District in Marion, Iowa. After serving as an instructional coach, where she brought a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her role, Shanna returned to the classroom with excitement, eager to implement the innovative strategies she developed and championed. She began her career teaching grades 3–5 with a strong focus on student engagement and innovative teaching methods. Alongside her work in the classroom and as an instructional coach, Shanna is also an adjunct professor at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, continuing her commitment to fostering excellence in education.

Throughout her career, Shanna has been recognized for her outstanding contributions to education. She has presented at various conferences on topics such as technology integration, blended learning, and innovative teaching methods. Shanna is trained in Cognitive Coaching and Adaptive Schools, equipping her with the skills to support and empower educators in their professional growth. As a Seesaw for Schools Ambassador, she advocates for the effective use of digital tools to enhance student learning experiences. Her dedication to continuous improvement is evident in her pursuit of professional development in areas such as blended learning, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and leveraging technology in the classroom.

Shanna’s educational journey began at the University of Iowa, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a minor in psychology and endorsements in early childhood, reading, and social studies. She furthered her education by earning a Master of Education in Learning and Technology and a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University Iowa. She also completed a Master of Education in Administration with a principal endorsement at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. These qualifications have equipped Shanna with the knowledge and skills to lead and inspire educators toward success.
