Academic and Professional Background

Dr. Koul holds an M.Com. from the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir University, an M.A. in Economics from The University of Kashmir, Srinagar, and a Ph.D. in International Marketing from Panjab University, Chandigarh. He served as the Director of the Department of Management Studies at Islamia College, University of Kashmir, until his retirement in 2006. His distinguished academic career informs his reflective and insightful writing style.

Personal and Spiritual Journey

Dr. Koul's life was deeply impacted by the tragic loss of his father and brother in Dal Lake during his youth. Raised by his mother and elder brothers, he is rooted in his family's spiritual heritage, tracing back to Baba Usman Koul, a caliph of Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom. At 25, he met the mystic Mohammad Rajab Gunna of Gagribal, Dalgate, who became his spiritual guide and initiated him as a disciple in 1975. This spiritual journey has been a cornerstone of his life.

In 2018, following cataract surgery, Dr. Koul began writing poetry despite having no prior experience. He regards this as a divine gift that sparked his creative expression, leading to the creation of over 3,000 poems focused on divine love, reality, truth, and the human-divine connection.
