Irene Gao

At eight years old, Irene Gao has already established herself as a young talent in both music and writing.

Praised by American composer Timothy Brown for her “heartfelt approach” and “unique sensitivity and command” that showcase “maturity beyond her years,” Irene has won first prizes in numerous international piano competitions. Her musical journey has led her to perform solo at some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including Musikverein and Mozarthaus in Vienna, Philharmonie Berlin, John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Carnegie Hall in New York, John Knowles Paine Concert Hall at Harvard University, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore, and Benaroya Hall in Seattle. Her performances reflect her belief in the power of music to connect, inspire, and uplift. Dedicated to using her talents for meaningful causes, Irene co-founded Melody For Change Junior Guild, actively performing at benefit concerts. She was also invited to perform at the United Nations Headquarters for the Women’s Guild three years in a row, where she continues to use music to make a positive impact on society.

Irene is also an accomplished young writer whose work has been recognized in multiple competitions from an early age. At seven, she received the Reflections Washington State Award of Excellence; at eight, she won the Washington State Essay Contest; at nine, she earned an Honorable Mention in The New York Times Summer Reading Contest; and at ten, she was shortlisted for the John Locke Essay Competition for her essay on artificial intelligence.

Irene’s global musical experiences, paired with her vivid imagination and passion for storytelling, have profoundly shaped her work, intricately blending the realms of music and literature. She authored her first children’s adventure "Around The World In 80 Days" at age seven, and at eight, she penned a detective chapter book "The Hidden Truth", infused with her love for storytelling, her appreciation for history, and her firsthand experiences from performing on world stages. The Hidden Truth was featured in the March 2026 issue of American Mensa Bulletin.

Whether through the pages of a book or the keys of a piano, Irene Gao continues to captivate and inspire audiences with her creativity, talent and dedication.
