Maryann Brinley

I am an experienced writer interested in the wisdom of women, parenting, families, and science but most important of all, in the incredible power of words. As poet Emily Dickinson wrote in This is My Letter to the World, "I know nothing in the world that has as much power as a word. Sometimes I write one, and I look at it, until it begins to shine." I have written and published nine non-fiction books but spent most of my career in the world of magazines. I was a senior editor and writer at Ladies' Home Journal, Good Housekeeping, Family Health, McCall's and Woman's Day magazines from 1972 to 1989. More recent experience was as a writer and publications editor at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, now Rutgers University. I retired at 65 to work as a free-lance writer and for our family business, Brinley Shipwreck Rum, founded on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts, the setting for my first novel, Annie's Redemption. I am a wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother who would never have been able to reach for wisdom without the love of Bob, Zach, Maggie, Erin, Chris, Finn, Charlotte, Evie, Willa or Alex and al the Bucknums and Brinleys.
