Lane Metcalf's journey begins in the awe-inspiring mountain country of Colorado, where the rugged landscape instilled in him an adventurous spirit. He and his wife, Yvonne, make it a point to return yearly to visit family and indulge in their annual “mountain fix,” reconnecting with the natural beauty that continues to inspire them.
After graduating from Colorado State University with a keen interest in writing, Lane moved to Ohio. It was there he planted roots, married Yvonne, and raised a family. His passion for sailing, a love that runs as deep as the ocean itself, was sparked during a Caribbean sailboat cruise when the skipper handed over the reins to him and a keen friend. This exhilarating experience ignited a lifelong love for the sea, a love that continues to thrill and excite him to this day.
Since then, Lane’s dedication to sailing and writing has been unwavering, a testament to the strength and depth of his character. He expertly balances these passions with his deep commitment to God, his family, and his church. These pillars of his life are not just priorities, but the very essence of his being, often taking precedence over his nautical and literary pursuits.
Lane and Yvonne are proud grandparents to five grandchildren. Their son and daughter have blessed them with one grandchild each, and their “adopted” niece from a set of triplets, whose parents were unable to grandparent, has added three more to the fold. Their joy is further multiplied by five great-grandchildren, making their family geographically diverse yet emotionally close-knit.
Lane Metcalf’s life is a testament to the power of passion, family, and faith. His story is one of embracing the adventures that life offers while staying true to the values that matter most.
