Susan Schoenbauer Thurin

Susan Thurin wanted to be a teacher from the get-go. She got early practice by helping other children in her one-room school. Volunteering for the Peace Corps right after college set her on a new path by joining teaching to adapting to life in a new culture. Her life as a teacher, though mainly in Wisconsin, took her to Liberia, England, China, and Sweden. Instead of her childhood dream of writing novels, she wrote academic papers about other people's novels and biographies of Victorian travelers. Following her current memoir about teaching in China, she is working on a book about cooking.
