llan Troen is emeritus professor of the Lopin Chair of Modern History (Ben-Gurion University) and the Stoll Family Chair in Israel Studies (Brandeis). At BGU, he was the founding academic director of the national institute that honors Ben-Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister, and houses his extensive archives. At Brandeis, he established the pioneering institute outside Israel for developing the field of Israel Studies that now includes scholars and centers on every continent. He is past president of the Association for Israel Studies and founding editor of the journal "Israel Studies"(Indiana University Press) and was awarded in 2023 its Lifetime Achievement Award. He has authored or edited books in American, Jewish, and Israeli history. His publications include "Imagining Zion: Dreams, Designs and Realities in a Century of Jewish Settlement" (Yale); with Jacob Lassner, "Jews and Muslims in the Arab World; Haunted by Pasts Real and Imagined"(Rowman and Littlefield); with Rachel Fish, "Essential Israel: Essays for the Twenty-First Century" (Indiana, 2017); "Israel/Palestine in World Religions; Whose Promised Land?"
