Michelle C. Hughes

Michelle C. Hughes, Ed.D. is an enthusiastic and passionate educator. Throughout her 34-year career, she taught junior high school English, worked as a high school administrator, and served as a faculty member in higher education. Michelle taught and supervised student teachers, as well as served several terms as department chair at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California. She was honored with the college's Bruce and Adaline Bare Teacher of the Year Award for the Social Sciences in 2013. Michelle's research and writing thoughtfully examines teaching dispositions or the postures, attitudes, and heart skills needed for professional flourishing. Her new book, Dispositions Are A Teacher's Greatest Strength (Routledge, 2024), was just released. She is also the co-editor of Joyful Resilience as Educational Practice (Routledge, 2022).
