Megan May

My name is Megan May-Mitchell. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh Pa where I still reside with my family, my husband, Steve, and our kids Michaela and Max. I graduated from Point Park University in 1999 with a BFA in musical theater (so a degree in imagination lol) I work at Allstate Career School currently in Admissions/ Financial aid as an advisor. I perform at every local theater, every opportunity I get that is a fit. I sing, act, and write.

Writing has always been a key way for me to express myself creatively, if I can't say it, I can write it. This came from my father Joe and my mother Janet being amazing parents, and from a young age introducing us to culture, literature, reading, classics, art, novels, theater, music, fashion, musicals. My Dad was an English teacher, and helped me as soon as he saw I had an interest in writing. The first moment of that recognition was with the journals they had us keep in 6 grade English class. My teacher took notice of my ability as a writer. She sent home a note to my parents with my graded journal speaking about what she thought was a special gift. It was a proud day. I knew I was a story teller, but not that my writing style would appeal to readers.

My entire family is creative. My sisters Jenny and Katie, and my brother Stephen. My sister Katie, the youngest May sibling was a social media model, and entrepreneur living in LA with her 7 year old daughter Mia. She built such a huge following on Instagram and Snap Chat that at one point she was crowned as the "Queen of Snapchat" Katie developed a sore neck from a photo shoot. In 2016 at only 34, she suffered a catastrophic stroke, and we lost her, The cause of death on her autopsy "neck manipulation by a chiropractor"

This was a very bad time for our family. I went to a very dark place mentally, almost a scary dark hole, and it took me years to slowly begin to crawl out. In December of 2021 in the heart of covid, the unthinkable happened. I lost the closest person to me in my life, at that time, my best friend Mary of nearly 30 years Mary Blocher to covid pneumonia. i returned to the dark place mentally. I spoke to a therapist, after a close friend pretty much insisted. The therapist suggested I use my creativity to heal my heart. to focus on telling the stories of my years of friendship with Mare, one every week and share them on my social media. It was a way for me to be with Mary, remember the awesome times, to introduce her to the world, to reintroduce her to friends and family, and most importantly to her children Kennedy 15 and Daunte 10.who never heard any of these older stories.

The stories were so popular on my Facebook page people were asking "Meg when is the next story?" "This needs to be a book or a play," so I reached out to my family especially my niece Mia, my sister Jenny, and my brother Steven (also a writer) and expressed my huge desire to write a book. My brother promised to be my editor, and work with me to organize my thoughts, the details, my punctuation for sure lol, and make the book a reality for me.

My brother kept firm to his word. We talked, or wrote back and forth every day for a whole summer, through a year. I sent him each story, he sent me edits for my approval so back and forth and back and forth. He had me write specific stories we needed, some not easy to tell, write my intro and my ending, and helped me glue it together, also bringing on his very talented friend Beth Sullivan to design a book cover and be a proof reader.

Our book "Infinite Sisters" became a reality. The book went on sale June of 2024 the month of what would have been Mare's 47th birthday.

I know I have another book in me somewhere, or a play, maybe a comedy, or the story of my sister's life. I am hoping this is just a start.
