Born in Kerala, India, Dr. Coumar began his medical career with a degree from
JIPMER, Pondicherry, followed by a psychiatry residency. His interest in physical and
mental health led him to London, UK, for psychotherapy training while practicing
medicine.
In 1992, Dr. Coumar moved to the U.S. and completed a graduate degree in
Psychology at Antioch University. He then joined the University of Washington's Hall
Health Center as a mental health counselor and eventually became the director of the
Mental Health Clinic, a position he held for 12 years. Currently, he serves as a Clinical
Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry.
Since 2013, Dr. Coumar has been in private psychotherapy practice in Seattle. He provides
professional training worldwide and enriches the field of mental health with his extensive
experience and insights.
