Bethany Bell

Hi, I’m Bethany Bell - author, behaviourist, and the creator of the Canine Dialogue Dynamics (CDD) Method.

My work is rooted in love, empathy, and a deep respect for our dogs. I don't teach dogs through commands, treats, or obedience drills - I teach them through dialogue, relationship, and emotional understanding.

Since 2010, I’ve worked with families and rescue dogs from all walks of life, helping them navigate challenges with heart-led guidance, neuroscience-backed insight, and a commitment to higher welfare.

My books offer a fresh, compassionate alternative to traditional dog training. Whether you’re raising a puppy, supporting an adolescent, or helping a rescue dog heal, I’ll help you rewrite the rules and connect with your dog in a way that feels natural, grounded, and real.

I live in the UK with my husband and our two beloved dogs, where we spend our days walking, creating, and choosing a slower, more intentional life - one pawprint at a time.

I created the Canine Dialogue Dynamics (CDD) Method as a gentle, holistic alternative to conventional training. After years of working with dogs - especially those struggling with trauma, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm - I realised that mainstream approaches were missing something vital: true communication.

The CDD Method is built on dialogue, not demands. It teaches people to understand their dog’s emotional world, respond with empathy, and guide with trust - not control. There are no commands, no clickers, no aversive methods, no corrections, no punishments, no treats-as-bribes, and no tools. Instead, we build a shared language rooted in real connection, emotional intelligence, and mutual respect.

It’s about raising dogs as family - not robots. It’s about honouring their individuality while helping them become confident, resilient, and capable. And it’s about rewriting the rules we’ve been taught about behaviour, so we can raise dogs not through obedience - but through relationship.
