Ruth Braunstein is a cultural sociologist who writes and speaks about the contested roles of religion and morality in American political life. She is the author of Prophets and Patriots: Faith in Democracy Across the Political Divide (2017) and My Tax Dollars: The Morality of Taxpaying in America (2025); and co-editor of Religion & Progressive Activism: New Stories about Faith and Politics (2017). She is Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Connecticut, where she Directs the Meanings of Democracy Lab.
