Peter Lembke PhD

My name is Peter Lembke. I studied Food Chemistry in Wuppertal/Germany and made my PhD in Physical Chemistry and Food Technology at the University of Saarbrücken/Germany. During my PhD studies I developed a process called "Industrial Supercritical Fluid Chromatography" (SFC) for the enrichment of polyunsaturated fatty acids (EPA & DHA) from fish oils. This SFC process became the state-of-the-art technology to produce very large quantities of highest concentrated EPA and DHA oils for the pharma- and dietary supplement industries. Over the years I published several patents and papers on Omega-3 fatty acids and purification technologies. I then moved from the production side to the more R&D and commercial side of the business where I learned in detail the chemistry behind the biochemical pathways of these interesting fatty acids inside our bodies. The more I learned and experienced first hand in clinical trials the more fascinated I became. On the flip side I also experienced that many health professionals and physicians had very little information on this subject and were not very convinced that omega-3 fatty acids have any benefits for our health. Then again these same health professionals were convinced from the benefits arising from pharma drugs like Vascepa/Eicosapent, EPADEL, or Lovaza/Omacor, not being aware that these very successful pharma drugs are nothing else than concentrated EPA and/or DHA. Therefore, after more than 30 years in the business I decided to share my experience and write a book explaining in easy words the biochemistry and pathways behind EPA and DHA, the manifold ways of how these polyunsaturated fatty acids are essential for our well being and healthy aging. I hope many health professionals will read this book and hopefully start recommending the intake of these fatty acids on a daily basis. Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA & DHA) are not the answer to all health problems, nor can they stop our aging process. However, they do play a vital role in maintaining our health especially as we age.
