Muhammad James Sutton

My name is Muhammad ibn James Sutton, and I was born in 1978 in Jacksonville, Florida. I accepted Islam at the age of fifteen in my Sophomore year of high school. At the age of twenty-one, I decided to leave Jacksonville, so I could find a Muslim community which I could learn and practice the Deen in. I traveled from Jacksonville to Atlanta, from Atlanta to Philadelphia, and from Philadelphia to Los Angeles. I ended up staying in Los Angeles with Shaykh Fareed Abdullah until October of 2000.

I left America in November of 2000 to travel to Yemen to study in Dammaj. I remained in Yemen for fifteen years. I traveled with my family to the Saudi Arabian border towards the end of 2015 to get my family out of the war. I ended up staying in Saudi Arabia as an illegal immigrant for the next six years. We were deported from Saudi Arabia in December of 2021.

I ended up back in Jacksonville, Florida after a twenty-two year absence to begin giving khutbahs and writing books on different topics of the Deen. I also began teaching different books online. At the beginning of 2024, I traveled out to Fresno, California to become the Imam at a Masjid there. The Imam position did not work out, but I remained in Fresno, and I continue to author books and teach classes. May Allah keep us firm on this Deen!
