Laura Chalar

Laura Chalar, a lawyer and writer, was born in Uruguay in 1976. Her latest work is the Spanish-language poetry collection "Fin de la tarde" (2024).

Her English-language work includes the poetry collections "Riversent" (2022), "Unlearning" (2017), "Our Lady of Obligations" (2017) and "Midnight at the Law Firm" (2015), as well as the short story collection "The Guardian Angel of Lawyers" (2018).

She has written for children and edited the poetry anthologies "Touching the Light of Day: Six Uruguayan Poets" (2016) and "Trusting on the Wide Air: Poems of Uruguay" (as co-editor; 2019).

Laura, who is also a Pushcart Prize nominee, has translated literature from and into English and Spanish, as well as from the French, Italian and Portuguese.
