David Cotter

David was born at Williamson Diamond Mine, in Mwadui, Tanzania, in 1964. Shortly after he was born, his family returned to Northern Ireland. In 1969, the family moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba, and then Calgary Alberta.

He did his undergraduate degree at the University of Calgary, and an M.Phil in Anglo-Irish Literature in Dublin, at Trinity College. He completed his doctorate at Trinity College. This was a Freudian / post Freudian analysis of the cuckolding drama that is central to the Joycean ouvre. The thesis was published by Routledge as Joyce and the Perverse Ideal.

In 2000, David moved to Beijing, and opened an English language school. He sold this school in 2015. A Man without Talent, Book One, recounts the establishment, growth and sale of this school.

After selling his school, David began work on Vehicle. He moved to Ireland with his wife and son, and bought a house in the Galway countryside. In 2001, after suffering immobility, exhaustion and pain, he was diagnosed with MS. In search for healing and relief, David and his wife studied Buddhist methods of self liberation, meditation and qi gong. A Man without Talent, Book Two is an examination of the self’s situation in time, and it describes this life in Galway.

After self publishing A Man without Talent, David worked to complete Vehicle.
