Gerry Summerton

Gerry’s journey spans a rich tapestry of pre-hospital experiences. From joining the Army at 16 years of age and completing his basic and trade training, he was deployed into the heart of conflict zones, seamlessly blending his infantry skills with life-saving medical interventions amidst gunfire and stress.

Transitioning from military life to domesticity Gerry found himself settling down in a Northeast coastal town where his wife originated from. His daily work lacked that “little bit extra” that military duties offered. That was until he witnessed a Lifeboat launching to an emergency call. This sparked a revelation for the “little extra” he was searching for and missing from his current life.

For sixteen years, he navigated the turbulent waters of the North Sea as a member of an inshore and offshore lifeboat crews, earning accolades for gallantry and along with his crew saving countless lives.

As he got older the rigour's of offshore rescue began to take their toll on his body and he gracefully retired his life jacket and continued his role of paramedic within an NHS Ambulance Trust.

His passion for teaching and mentoring blossomed, offering invaluable insights into the complexities of pre-hospital care and how as a mentor he could support students under his care as well as established clinicians.

Knowing that the quality and style of mentoring varies from person to person, Gerry saw a need for an easy to understand, straightforward and authoritative source of information and guidance.
