Emily Fell

Emily is an author and illustrator living in the Northwest of England.

Her background is actually in science, having studied Forensic Science at university, however this was never her true passion, creative subjects such as art and design technology were what she really enjoyed, but at that time she didn’t have the confidence to pursue them.

After meeting her husband and having their son, James, Emily decided to leave science and she enrolled in a part time design course in Manchester. It was the best decision she has ever made! It was obvious that this is what Emily should have done from day one of her career and what really helped her succeed in producing unique, creative ideas was Emily’s wealth of knowledge in an unusual combination of science, creativity and motherhood!

This new found confidence in herself led Emily to start writing children’s poems. James was around 4 at the time and he was constantly ill with a cold and a runny nose. To cheer him up Emily decided to write about a creature that would help him get rid of his cold. James thought the poem was hilarious and it was often read to him when he was under the weather.

After 6 years of trying for a second child, Emily and her husband had their daughter Violet and a year later along came their third child Gabriella! It was whilst Emily was on maternity leave with Violet and Gabriella that she thought back to her children’s poem, as they too were now suffering with endless colds. Emily wondered if other parents, like herself, would like to comfort their little ones by reading of a creature that helps take their children’s sniffles away? And so ‘Have you ever heard of a Snotgoblin?’ was born!
