Thomas Howard Suitt III

Dr. Thomas Howard “Ben” Suitt III is an award-winning Religious Studies scholar with a PhD from Boston University. A contributor for the Costs of War Project, which won the 2022 US Peace Prize, Suitt’s work takes an interdisciplinary approach to the fields of sociology, religious studies, and military studies.

Dr. Suitt is the author of “Finding Resonance amid Trauma” (2021), “High Suicide Rates among United States Service Members and Veterans of the Post-9/11 Wars” (2021), and Narratives of Trauma and Moral Agency among Christian Post-9/11 Veterans (2023), winner of the Award of Merit from the Religion Communicators Council and a IBPA Benjamin Franklin Silver Award in Religion. These publications delve into the interplay of faith, trauma, and moral agency in the lives of veterans, employing inductive qualitative interviews and co-constructed narratives to uncover the role of faith in their service, recovery, and resilience.
