Rob Davies

Rob grew up in Wales where he developed a lifelong passion for wildlife especially birds of prey. He studied zoology at Exeter University and moved to South Africa in 1982 to work as a research ecologist, first on Springbok in the Karoo where he became absorbed in this desert region, later gaining his PhD on Verreaux’s Eagles which led him into mapping and the use of geographic information systems to protect wildlife and their habitats. Rob has been actively involved running and guiding various conservation NGOs both in South Africa and back in the UK since returning in 2002. He set up the biological records centre for West Wales and created a mapping business, Habitat Info, in 2010, which provides support from a barn in Solva to conservation and sustainable development organisations across the world, especially in Africa. Rob opened The Natural Gallery in 2019 to showcase and celebrate wildlife and landscape art by various artists. Rob did A level art at school and has kept this passion going, painting extensively in the field in the Karoo, Pembrokeshire and Spain; and on excursions around Africa to study elusive raptors with Bill Clark for their fieldguide.
