James Lenhart, MD, MPH
Dr. Lenhart completed medical studies and the degree of Doctor of Medicine at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. He took residency in Family Medicine at Brown University Affiliated Hospitals in Pawtucket/Providence, Rhode Island and in 2010 completed a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Liverpool. He holds the distinction of academic rank of full professor from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, the University of Nevada, and the University of Arizona Schools of Medicine.
The experiences living in the Southwestern United States amongst Native American and Hispanic peoples during medical school initiated his transition from parochial perspectives to social mindfulness. Eclectic influences toward his full embrace of social progressivism stem from career experiences and life as a family physician in New England, the Pacific Northwest, Las Vegas, Nevada, Southeastern North Carolina and Yuma, Arizona. Emphasizing social medicine while studying for the Master of Public Health degree cemented his ideals.
James now serves as an Associate Program Director for the residency in Family Medicine at Community Health Care in Tacoma, Washington, a University of Washington affiliated program. In that capacity, Dr. Lenhart leads curriculum development including research and scholarship at the residency where he holds the University of Washington academic rank of Clinical Associate Professor.
Dr. Lenhart’s other literary works include publication of his master’s dissertation A Comparative Analysis of the Impact of Healthcare Insurance Availability on Health Outcomes in Hawai’i and Mississippi and a novel, Conversations for Paco: Why America Needs Healthcare All an exposé that portrays the people, politics and profits that poison healthcare in America.
