Julia Franks

Julia Franks was born in London in 1964. Her Jewish grandparents, who had been forced to leave Russia and Poland at the turn of the 20th Century, settled in London's East End. Her father, Arthur Franks, was a civil engineer, and her mother, Helen Franks, was a national journalist and writer of 5 books on social and cultural issues.

Growing up in multi-cultural inner London, Julia encountered the cultures and habits of many people. It was here that her lifelong pull towards music and dancing began. In her 20s she ran clubs and raves in London with 2 school friends. After training as a psychotherapist, she developed a workshop, Spirit in the House, exploring the ecstatic rave experience.

Julia is now a certified teacher in Open Floor Movement Practice and Ecstatic Awakening Dance. She also runs her own conscious dance practice, Flomotion, in North London. Alongside her dance activity, Julia runs a full psychotherapy practice for individuals, couples and supervisees.

Julia regularly writes blogs on topics such as: Dance and Defence Against Loneliness, What is Body Awareness in Dance?, Embodied Mind, Ecstatic Dance in London, Dancing for Mental Health, Community Dance and Dance Movement Psychotherapy.

Dance for Life is her first book.

There'll be more.
