Tom Fexas

The “Fexas Five” (Articles – Volumes 1 through 5) is a tribute to the legendary yacht designer Tom Fexas, a visionary whose work shaped modern yacht design. Over his career, Fexas was responsible for more than 1,000 boats, blending timeless aesthetics with innovative engineering.

His most iconic creation, the Midnight Lace, redefined classic cruising yachts. As Fexas himself once wrote:

“While there are many ‘classic cruisers’ available on the market today, few have the heritage of the Midnight Lace. Although the first Lace was launched in 1978, its lineage reaches back to the pre–World War II commuter boats and WWII PT boats—creating a vessel that will never be mistaken for anything else.”

Beyond the drawing board, Fexas was a gifted writer with a sharp wit and a keen eye for the quirks of nautical life. His articles appeared in top boating magazines for over two decades, offering readers both technical insight and a dose of dry humor.
