Kathleen is the author of five bilingual books for children, including Pan Dulce (Scholastic, Inc.); Braids/Trencitas (Lectorum); Sweet Memories/Dulces Recuerdos (Lectorum); Harvesting Friends/Cosechando Amigos (Arte Público Press); and Born to Play Béisbol

The Magical Career of Fernando Valenzuela (Espejo Press).

Dr. Contreras is a bilingual teacher educator with teaching experience at UCLA, Cal Lutheran University, and California State University, Channel Islands in the School of Education and the Chicano Studies Department. She earned her B.A. and bilingual teaching credential at UCLA, a Master’s in Bilingual Education at UCSB, and a PhD in Urban Schooling & Teacher Education from UCLA. Her career in teacher education is dedicated to aspiring future bilingual educators.
