Paul J. Hamel

My teaching experience started as U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in 1969 when I taught English in Cameroon, Africa. After earning a master’s in teaching ESL at UCLA in 1974, I taught in Lubumbashi, Zaire.

Upon my return to Los Angeles, I coordinated an English language program for Russian-speaking refugees in Los Angeles. I taught in ESL adult education programs at Santa Monica College, the University of Southern California, and Los Angeles Unified School District, where I held positions as an instructor, coordinator, teacher trainer, assistant principal, principal, and finally, regional adult school principal covering most of West Los Angeles.

After my retirement, I returned to the classroom. I taught ESL at the American Language Center at UCLA and the College of the Desert in the Coachella Valley in California.
