Professionally, Emeritus Professor Philip Stott worked for many years at SOAS, University of London, where he was a Head of Department and a Dean. His academic work focused on biogeography (see his book 'Historical Plant Geography'). He has also written books and articles on Thailand and Cambodia (e.g. 'Royal Siamese Maps'). He is a composer, especially for children, and has published 'The Pooh Recorder Book', 'The Peter Rabbit Recorder Book', 'The Wind in the Willows Recorder Book', and 'The Brambly Hedge Music Book'. Today, he is an active member of the University of the Third Age (U3AC) in Cambridge, where he lives with his historian wife. He has two grown-up daughters and three grandchildren. He is an active gardener with a strong interest in Natural History. He is now enjoying writing novels (his 'The Matilda Trilogy') for the sheer fun of it.
