Emilie Hard recently retired after serving as an assistant superintendent of teaching and learning in a large school district and as the director of equity in another school district. Her former positions include elementary principal, math specialist and classroom teacher. It was her privilege to serve in schools and districts for over 40 years.
She earned her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Oregon, supervised student teachers for Seattle University, and supported principal interns for the University of Washington.
Emilie has coauthored numerous Reader’s Workshop units for school districts and was a contributing author to Activating and Engaging Habits of Mind (Costa and Kallick, 2000), Habits Across the Curriculum (Costa and Kallick, 2009), and Learning and Leading with Habits of Mind (Costa and Kallick, 2008). She lives in Seattle with her husband and two cats.
