Originally from Birmingham, in the UK, Georgina Howard studied European languages before heading to Copenhagen. Here she worked as a writer and trainer where her activities ranged from teaching English to the Inuit hunters and fishermen of Greenland to imparting intercultural awareness skills to Danish statisticians. After eight years, her passion for landscapes and languages drove her south to an isolated Basque hamlet in the Spanish Pyrenees, where she has now lived for more than two decades. In that time she has gained privileged insights into local culture and Basque mountain life, and set up her own idiosyncratic brand of walking, culture and language holidays at Pyrenean Experience. In the Footsteps of Smugglers is her first book for Bradt.
