With over 40 years of dedicated service in education—both in Jamaica and the United States — Mervalee Thompson is a seasoned educator and trained Guidance Counsellor. She is a lifelong advocate for children’s growth, both academically and spiritually.
Mrs. Thompson has worked faithfully alongside her husband in pastoral ministry for nineteen years, offering strong support in guiding families, mentoring youth, and nurturing the spiritual development of those they served. Her contributions in ministry have touched countless lives through her encouragement, teaching, and quiet leadership.
As the author of more than 30 books—including works on manners and etiquette, prayers, reading games for children, youth and love issues, and quality parenting—she emphasizes the importance of building character, practicing good moral behavior, and helping children believe in their worth and potential.
She champions the use of positive reinforcement in shaping behavior, and encourages parents to model the values they wish to see in their children. As a Reading Resource teacher, her heart is especially drawn to helping children discover joy in reading. She believes that every non-reader can become a reader - a truth she's proven again and again.
Guided by her deep trust in God’s promises, Mrs. Thompson lives and teaches the principle of loving God, loving self, and serving others. Her personal motto, "Back to the Basics," calls society to return to the foundational values of manners, etiquette, and self-discipline at every level.
