About the Authors

Marilyn Parker and Lois Longbrake are sisters who were inspired when Lois’s granddaughter Ashley, began telling stories on a long car trip. As most kids’ stories, her story began “once upon a time." She gave life to the shoes and hoped they could find a home.

The authors worked for the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Nevada. Lois worked as a school nurse and Marilyn was a teacher.

They both saw many children who were homeless because their parents had lost their jobs. Most of the other children were not aware that these kids were homeless. They usually were able to receive assistance with meals at school and clothes from thrift stores or charitable organizations. They looked like any other kid in school looked.

The authors wanted to bring awareness and understanding to an often neglected topic.
