Pascale Massot

Pascale Massot is an Associate Professor in the School of Political Studies at the University of Ottawa in Canada, a non-resident Honorary Fellow, Political Economy at the Asia Society Policy Institute's Center for China Analysis, and a Senior Fellow at the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. She served on the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs’ Indo-Pacific Advisory Committee, and as China advisor in the offices of various Canadian Cabinet ministers, at different points between 2015 and 2022. Dr. Massot is the author of China's Vulnerability Paradox: How the World's Largest Consumer Transformed Global Commodity Markets (Oxford University Press, 2024). Her research interests include the global political economy of China’s rise, China’s impact on global extractive commodity markets—including debates around de-risking, Canada-China relations, and the advent of Indo-Pacific strategies around the world. She was a visiting PhD student at Peking University’s Center for International Political Economy and a Cadieux-Léger Fellow at Global Affairs Canada. She received her Ph.D. in political science and an MA in Asia Pacific Policy Studies from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, and a BA in East Asian Studies and Economics from the University of Montreal.

Her work has been published in English, French and Mandarin in various academic and media outlets, including New Political Economy, International Journal, Competition & Change, Revue internationale de politique comparée, Journal of East Asian Studies, The Globe and Mail, Le Devoir, Les Affaires, East Asia Forum, Policy Options and China Business News (第一财经).
