Dag Detter advises governments on turning around state-owned enterprises and public commercial portfolios to create financial value, fiscal space and stronger public balance sheets.
His work draws on more than four decades of experience in investment banking, government ownership, corporate restructuring and international reform. From 1998 to 2001, as President of Stattum and Head of Sweden’s State Enterprise Division, he led the professionalisation and restructuring of a portfolio comprising more than 60 companies, over 200,000 employees and approximately one quarter of Sweden’s domestic business sector by value. The programme introduced portfolio-level reporting and valuation, professional boards, commercial capital structures and major corporate restructurings and transactions.
Since then, he has advised governments and international institutions across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas on public commercial assets, SOE turnarounds, institutional ownership, transactions and public net worth.
He is co-author of The Public Wealth of Nations, named a Book of the Year by both the Financial Times and The Economist; The Public Wealth of Cities; and Public Net Worth, selected for the Financial Times’ Best Summer Books 2024. His work appears regularly in international financial and policy publications.
