John R Mattox II

John writes action adventure books about pirates and business books about learning analytics. He started writing in middle-school and would often wake early to type stories on his father's TRS-80 Color Computer. He wrote short stories in high school which were published in his school's literary magazine and then studied writing and psychology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He pursued advanced degrees in experimental psychology at the University of Memphis and began his professional career as a learning analytics consultant with the accounting firm Arthur Andersen. For more than 25 years he has helped organizations measure the effectiveness of their training programs. Throughout his career he has published dozens of articles and three business books: Predictive Analytics for Human Resources and Learning Analytics (1st and 2nd Editions). Thirteen Brother Pirates is an historical adventure series about teens coming of age during the American Revolutionary War. It began when John's wife made an off-hand comment, "You should write a book about good pirates for the kids." John responded, "There is no such thing as good pirates," and in that moment, thoughts of a character-driven plot began. John lives in Franklin, Tennessee with his wife, three children, and a very lazy golden retriever.
